11:00 AM PANEL DISCUSSION: Reviewing how the introduction of intelligent transport systems in East Africa roads and highways infrastructure can overcome traffic challenges
Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) have played an important role to enhance travel experience. The increasing vehicle population, coupled with the changing socioeconomic landscape, rapid urbanisation in East Africa have brought about new transportation challenges. At the same time, developments in ITS technology have presented opportunities for the city-state to address the challenges and reshape the transportation landscape.
This session will bring together experts to discuss on the types of technologies required in ITS contracts in East Africa. It will also highlight how introducing intelligent traffic management system will help in easing the perennial congestion in Nairobi roads. It will highlight how the system is designed to allow a longer period of traffic flow from roads with most vehicles, a departure from the current time-based system and its project updates.
